this informational website uses a system called a dichtomous key. Keys such as this one are based on a series of choices made between two or more statements, that through process of elimination, allow one to reach a conclusion.

a listing of all artists contained in this key can be found here.

always start at the beginning of the key and follow it step by step. each choice will refer you to the next step which may be another section in the key, the conclusion [contemporary artist].

it is in good practice to write down your order of progress.

always read both choices, even if the first one sounds correct. the second one may sound even better.

if the choice between two statements is not clear, or you don't have enough information to make the choice, follow both choices to their conclusions. then, try to chose between the descriptions of the two resulting answers.

become familiar with the terms used in this key to better reach conclusions.

this key was created for FAHS-017. it is inclusive of 19 artists I was unaware of prior to taking this class. they were either mentioned in class or were seen at an artist talk given during the semester. it was created for people like me, who have a difficult time remembering artists names, but instead can easily identify their work.
